Bangkok - Thailand's privately-owned Bangkok Airways will launch daily flights to Macau on July 4, making it the third Thai carrier to service the popular gambling destination, media reports said Friday. Bangkok Airways chief executive Prasert Prasarttong-Oosoth described the Bangkok-Macau route as a "low-risk" destination given the steady flow of Thais to the casino paradise, said the Bangkok Post newspaper.

The no-frills carrier Thai AirAsia and Thai-owned Air Macau are already serving the former Portugese colony which is now part of China.

According to Macau Government Tourist Office statistics, some 55,834 Thais visited Macau during the first three months of this year, a 81 per cent increase over the same period in 2007. Last year, a total of 140,749 Thais visited Macau, a 57.4 per cent jump over 2006 arrivals.
